Encyclopedia

The Encyclopedia organizes everything your agent knows about your brand into clear, curated articles. Remark builds it from your documents and knowledge sources, keeps it organized as a browsable wiki, and proposes updates that you review and approve. Your agent only uses articles that are published and currently effective. Drafts, archived articles, and articles outside their effective dates are ignored, so you always control what the agent can say.

Build your encyclopedia

When your encyclopedia is empty, use Ask Remark to build it. The whole flow happens in the Ask Remark chat:

1. Open Encyclopedia in the Remark dashboard and select Ask Remark.
2. In the chat, share your documents and knowledge sources, such as policy handbooks, FAQ exports, and help center pages.
3. Remark processes the sources and proposes an outline: the article structure it plans to create, organized by topic.
4. Review the proposed outline. If something is missing or organized the wrong way, tell Ask Remark what to change or share more documents.
5. Approve the outline. Remark creates the articles and writes them in the background — articles show Being written in the Contents tree until they’re ready.

Written articles land as drafts. Review them and select Publish to make them available to your agent. You can edit, reorganize, and extend everything after the import, so the outline does not need to be perfect before you approve it.

Encyclopedia home

The Encyclopedia home page is built around three things: Status icons in the Contents tree tell you why an article needs a look:

• Being written — Remark is still writing this article from your sources
• Couldn’t be written — writing this article failed; ask Remark to try again
• Missing information — Remark flagged a gap the article should cover
• Suggested change — a proposed edit is waiting for review
• Unpublished changes — the draft differs from the published version

Articles

Articles are the unit of knowledge in the Encyclopedia. Each article has a published version, an optional working draft, nested child articles, and the sources it was generated from.

Edit an article

Click into an article to edit it directly. The editor supports:

• Text formatting — select text for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, and links
• Blocks — type / for headings, bulleted and numbered lists, and quotes
• Child articles — type / to create a new child article or link an existing article

Creating or linking a child article inserts a reference card into the article body: a block that shows the linked article’s current title and status, and opens that article when clicked. Linking doesn’t move or copy anything — the linked article stays where it is, and the card is a live pointer to it, so the same article can be referenced from several places without duplicating its content. Your agent follows these references too: when it reads an article that links to another, it can open the linked article as needed, so related knowledge stays connected without being repeated. Edits save automatically to the article’s working draft. The draft is not visible to your agent until you select Publish, which makes the draft the live version.

Effective dates

Effective dates control when an article is active. Open the article menu and select Change effective dates to set a starting date, an ending date, or both. Leave a field blank to keep that side open-ended. Your agent ignores articles outside their effective window, and the article shows an Upcoming or Expired badge. Use effective dates for knowledge that is only true for a while, so it activates and retires itself on schedule instead of relying on someone remembering to archive it:

• A sale or promotion — set an ending date so the article expires the moment the sale ends, and the agent stops quoting a discount that no longer applies.
• An upcoming event or launch — set a starting date so the article activates when the event becomes relevant, and an ending date to retire it once the event has passed.
• Seasonal policies — holiday shipping cutoffs or extended return windows can carry both dates, so they come and go each season without manual cleanup.

Version history

Open the article menu and select Version history to see every published version, including when it was published, who published it, and a summary of what changed. Reverting to an earlier version restores it as the working draft. Review the draft, then publish it to make it live.

Archive an article

Archiving removes an article from your Encyclopedia, and your agent stops using it. Archiving an article also archives its child articles, and it cannot be undone, so move any child articles you want to keep first. Archive articles that no longer apply instead of leaving outdated knowledge published.

Review suggested changes

Remark proposes updates to your encyclopedia over time, for example when new sources contradict an article or when it detects information an article should cover. Suggestions appear in the Needs attention section on the home page and inside the affected articles. There are two kinds of suggestions: Approved changes land in the article’s working draft, so nothing reaches your agent until you Publish. Inside an article you can step through suggestions one at a time or resolve them in bulk with Approve all / Reject all. If you change your mind right after resolving, select Undo to restore the suggestions. In Needs attention on the home page, once you resolve an article’s suggested changes, a Publish button appears on that article’s group so you can publish the result without opening the article.

Sources

Every article keeps track of the files and websites it was generated from. Article footers list their sources with download links, and the View sources menu on the home page shows everything your encyclopedia was built from and which articles reference each source.
